Joe Borowski

Bio

Joe is a partner at GBQ Capital Advisors, focusing on ESOP and valuation advisory practices. With over 20 years of experience, he has worked with over 100 ESOP companies through 1,000+ engagements, helping businesses transition to employee ownership, improve performance, and enrich their communities. Joe’s expertise spans every stage of the ESOP lifecycle, from initial design and execution to ongoing valuation and advisory services. He finds immense fulfillment in witnessing the transformational impact of employee ownership on companies and their employees.  

Joe joined the PV Board in 2025, serving as chair of the audit committee, where he provides vital financial and strategic insights. Outside of work, Joe enjoys traveling with his wife, where he doubles as her history guide and luggage carrier, and having fun with his kids—despite frequently losing to them in sports. 

Shawna Lake

Bio

Shawna brings nearly 30 years of experience in HR and talent management, helping organizations align their talent strategies with business goals and thrive amid growth and challenges. She is the founder of Deep End Talent Strategies, a consultancy specializing in leadership development, change management, and organizational alignment. Shawna is a respected industry leader, offering expertise and innovative approaches to strategic HR alignment and leadership development.  

Her dedication extends to community service, where she serves on the boards of the Boone County Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Community Foundation of Boone County. She also chairs Operation: Job Ready Veterans, an initiative helping over 1,000 veterans transition into meaningful careers annually, and is a founding board member of Fuel-Indy, promoting innovation in Indianapolis.  

When not working or volunteering, Shawna enjoys traveling the globe with her husband and two college-aged children, creating memories that inspire her both personally and professionally. 

Mike Rutherford

Bio

Mike Rutherford is a retired pharmaceutical industry professional with nearly 37 years of experience in quality assurance, specializing in computer systems, data integrity, and laboratory informatics. Most recently, Mike served as Interim President and CEO of ISPE and the ISPE Foundation, leading with his expertise in global technical standards. Over his career, Mike held significant roles at Syneos Health as Executive Director in Quality Assurance and at Eli Lilly and Company, where he contributed to medicine development through diverse leadership positions. He is widely recognized for his knowledge of data integrity, laboratory automation, and related fields, contributing extensively to ISPE and GAMP research and guidelines.  

Mike’s accolades include the 2014 ISPE Max Seales Yonker Member of the Year Award and the 2016 ISPE Joseph X. Phillips Professional Achievement Award. Mike formed his consulting firm, Rutherford Consulting, LLC, in 2024 to continue supporting advancements in quality and compliance.  

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Mike holds a BS in Chemistry from Delaware Valley University and an MS in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Kentucky. 

Lisa Hague

Bio

Lisa is the co-founder of Stokastique, an ESOP consulting firm specializing in actuarial models to prefund repurchase obligations, ensuring ESOPs can run indefinitely. Prior to this, Lisa served as both CEO and CFO of The Nyhart Company, a national benefits consulting firm and a long-time ESOP organization. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in Nyhart’s national expansion, leading 10 acquisitions as CFO and directing the internal sale process of the ESOP as CEO. Lisa is passionate about championing women’s issues in the workplace and mentoring professionals in business. She joined the PV Board in 2025 and continues her commitment to supporting employee ownership initiatives.  

Outside of her career, Lisa enjoys traveling with her three daughters, who live on two different continents, and dedicates her free time to Pilates and fitness. 

Richard Van Doel

Bio

Rick Van Doel brings over 40 years of leadership experience across military, for-profit, and nonprofit sectors. A U.S. Navy veteran, he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1993 before transitioning to a career in business leadership. He dedicated 28 years to Performance Validation, serving as President and leading the company’s transition to a 100% S-Corp ESOP in 2018. Under his leadership, PV strengthened its employee-ownership culture, ensuring long-term stability and success. 

Rick holds a PhD in Organizational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University, where his research focused on stewardship characteristics in employee-owned firms and their impact on governance and productivity. He was awarded a Louis O. Kelso Fellowship from Rutgers University’s School of Management and Labor Relations and continues to contribute to academic research on employee ownership. 

Bruce Beck

Bio

Bruce Beck brings over three decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having dedicated 34 years to Eli Lilly and Company. During his tenure at Lilly, Bruce held leadership roles in Technical Support, Operations, Environmental Affairs, and Project Delivery. Serving as Director of Global Facilities Delivery, he led a team with global responsibility for Commissioning and Qualification (C&Q), ensuring projects adhered to cGMP compliance and sustainable practices. His work spanned several countries, including Ireland, the UK, Spain, China, and the US, reflecting his ability to manage diverse, cross-cultural teams and deliver results on a global scale. 

Bruce remains active in the life sciences field, providing consulting services to companies in C&Q and leadership development. He is also a member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) and has contributed extensively to technical journals, publishing a book in 2017 titled Essentials of Leadership, which captures leadership insights gained from managing projects in diverse cultures. 

Bruce resides in Zionsville with his wife, Kathy, and enjoys spending time with their four adult children and five grandsons. His commitment to both his professional and personal communities underscores his deep dedication to leadership and growth. 

Martin Long

With over 35 years of experience in the life sciences industry, Martin Long has led businesses that provide critical products, software, and services to accelerate the discovery, development, and manufacture of life-saving medicines. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to fostering innovation, driving business growth, and enhancing operational excellence in highly regulated environments. 

Martin joined Performance Validation in 2021 as President and CEO, where he leads the company’s strategic direction, ensuring sustainable growth and long-term value creation for employee-owners. Under his leadership, PV continues to strengthen its position as a trusted partner in commissioning, qualification, and validation services for FDA-regulated industries. He is passionate about professional development and enjoys seeing employees expand their business skills, take on greater responsibilities, and create lasting value for customers. 

Martin resides in Zionsville with his wife, three college-aged children, and their two mini schnauzers. He enjoys spending time outdoors, especially when it involves good food, classic cars, and the company of family and friends.

Director of Technical Services - Donna has over 20 years of experience leading teams in Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation (CQV). Her focus has always been on pioneering equipment management, quality control, and embracing innovative practices, such as Paperless Validation.
